An essential workshop for counsellors working with children and young people
This is an interactive workshop which explores key aspects of professional practice, relating to the
BACP Ethical Framework 2018 and the law. The workshop will cover ethical decision-making,
confidentiality, sharing information, disclosures against the client’s wishes, disclosures of sexual
abuse and historical sexual abuse, boundaries to reporting and the law, disclosure of records and
enforced access to notes by third parties, such as police and the courts and data protection law.
Peter’s workshops are very popular. They are interactive and include a variety of presentation syles
including short presentations, case studies, group feedback and discussion with the facilitator. Peter
explains and outlines the law in non-technical language with plenty of opportunities for questions.
Peter Jenkins is an experienced counsellor, trainer and author of several books on the law, including
Counselling, Psychotherapy and the Law (Sage, 2007) and several training DVDs, including
Counselling Confidentiality and the Law (Counselling DVDs, 2013). He has extensive experience of
running training workshops on legal aspects of therapy. He has been of a member of both the BACP
Professional Conduct Committee and the UKCP Ethics Committee.
