PARENT SUPPORT ADVISER
Introduction
Hi, my name is Julie. I have worked for TIC+ since 2017.
I moved to Gloucestershire in 1989 from the North-East and have been married for 30 years with 2 adult children and my youngest has severe learning disability. Being a parent/carer offers me a unique insight into living in a ‘special’ family and the challenges it brings, as with any family.
I am a member of a ladies running group (although I run at snail pace) and I love cinema, family time, TV dramas and big Coronation Street fan and not forgetting lots of cups of tea and cake!
Training, Qualifications and Experience
I have been supporting parents since 2003 in family support or counselling roles. My passion is to empower families and help them enhance their relationships and family life. You are the expert on your child which I can support you with. As no child comes with a ‘training manual’ we can work together on supporting your family for your circumstances.
I am a National Autistic Society approved counsellor and I work for TIC+ as a school counsellor with children and young people aged 9-21 and run my private practice supporting parent/carers and their children who have special needs.
I have a Diploma in Counselling and have completed Advanced Specialist Training counselling children and young people. I have a Gloucestershire Total Communication certificate which includes using Makaton Sign Language to communicate with people with learning disability who have few words in their vocabulary.
