PARENT SUPPORT ADVISER

Introduction

Hi, my name is Janie and I’ve been working with TIC+ since 2016 as a counsellor for children and young people.

I have lived in Gloucestershire since 2002 and seen my children (and their friends) grow up here in local schools and in each other’s houses! I love to cycle, to get out into the mountains, and cook to unwind at the end of the day. I have been a single Mum to three children and am gradually taking on the role of step-mother to another two.

Training, Qualification and Experience

Having worked with young people for over 6 years, I am very mindful of the issues they struggle with and have been reminded of how I felt myself as a teenager trying to make my own way and become an independent young person within a busy working family. I also know how lonely it can feel supporting children through difficult times when you feel you can’t share their issues, or your feelings about them, with anyone else. I feel privileged to be able to offer support to parents who find themselves in this position, and to offer an empathic, non-judgmental and confidential space in which they can feel they have been heard and truly understood. I was lucky enough to have been offered this empathic understanding by a teacher at my own children’s school and have always remembered how powerful it was, and how it made me feel I was doing my best, and that this was good enough.

I have a degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Counselling. I have also received specialist training in working with children and young people, and in working online and with parents.
