PARENT SUPPORT ADVISER

Introduction

Hi my name is April. I’ve worked for TIC+ as a counsellor of children and young people and families since 2018.

I spent my childhood in Yorkshire and moved to Gloucestershire in my early twenties. I enjoy walking, playing ‘Let’s Dance’ on the Wii and home decorating/DIY.  I also like watching TV dramas anything from Downton Abbey to Vera.  I have two daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Training Qualifications and Experience

I have worked in Education mainly with Special Educational Needs for most of my working life; this has given me an insight into the many struggles and problems experienced by children, young people and their parents.  It can be very hard, especially facing these problems alone, or not being quite sure where to get help or guidance. I am passionately committed to providing parents access to a safe, confidential space, where they can share their concerns and worries.  I believe being heard, supported and having access to appropriate advice or information when needed, will help parents to feel more confident in supporting and understanding their children when they experience life’s difficulties.

I have a Diploma in Counselling and Training for Counselling Children and Young People.  I’ve also received specialist training to work online and with parents.
